Our fun reading task

Today in reading we made Paper-copters which is based on this story.

Bart and Orville by Hilton Ayrey

Orville was Bart's much-loved cat. From the very first day,

when Bart found him curled up in a basket beside his bed,

Orville made it very obvious that he was different from

other normal, everyday cats. When  Bart arrived home from

school, Orville would be lying in wait, in the tree overhanging the

driveway. He would pounce on Bart and they would tumble to the

ground in a wild play fight. When Bart collapsed into his favourite

bean bag to watch TV after a hard day at school, Orville always sat

on his head, purring loudly. They both seemed happy about that.

Orville was also a very curious cat. Many, many times he had to be

rescued from the strangest places. He was fearless and never thought

for a moment about the consequences of his actions. There was the

time Bart's mum went on a shopping trip to the supermarket. She got

out of the car and found Orville clinging to the car roof with a wild

look in his eyes. His fur was swished back against his body from the

ride. Then there was the time he took a nap in the tumble dryer.

Someone loaded it up and turned it on without noticing him.

He  seemed to be delighted by that.

Unfortunately, Orville’s colourful life came to a sudden end one day

when he was run over by a car. Bart decided to do something special

to celebrate Orville’s adventures. After a few days of mourning, Bart

began work on his project.

Many may think that there is something  seriously wrong about stuffing

a beloved cat and turning it into a

remote controlled helicopter. But Bart was sure that Orville would

have approved.

This wasn't such a difficult project once he got started. Bart took his

dead cat to the taxidermist and explained that he wanted Orville to be

stuffed with his legs spread wide apart. Then he fixed Orville to a

frame for stability and attached upwards-facing propellers on each of

Orville's outstretched paws. After a number of trials the day came

when Orville lifted off. With Bart manning the controls, Orville hovered

above the ground and then rose into the sky. The legend of Orville

the cat would live on.

This is the photo of me and my friends dropping the helipapers. I liked doing it because it was really fun to make and they spun well.

Thanks for reading.

My reading

This is my reading. This is my story map. It is of a bat. She is drinking blood. I did it on google drawings.
She is drinking blood so she can go back and feed the other bats. The things I learnt about these bats are that their names are vampire bats and they drink blood. They do not bite they make a little cut in the skin and then drink the blood.
It is related to this story.....

The Vampire Bat by Hilton Ayrey
The vampire bat was hungry. There had not been much food lately for her colony of bats that lived in a small cave in the rainforest. A big forest fire had scared off a lot of the wildlife so hunting for food was not easy. Those bats who managed to find something during the night would vomit it up and share it around, knowing that the other bats would do the same for them.

It was night-time now, time to leave the cave and search for food. With a flurry of wings, the bats headed off in different directions. They were looking for just one thing, the blood of live animals and they needed to be very careful not to wake their prey while they were feeding off them. As she flew through the forest close to the ground, the vampire bat listened carefully for the regular breathing of sleeping animals. She found a wild pig asleep in the undergrowth and landed close by preparing herself for the attack.

She used her very strong hind legs to spring into the air and landed lightly on the pig’s back. Using the special heat sensors in her nose, she found a blood vessel close to the skin. She licked the pig’s skin with her tongue, shaved off the animal hair with her very sharp teeth and sliced into the skin. The bite was painless and the sleeping pig didn't wake up. She relaxed and began to lap up the blood that flowed from the bite.

She greedily fed for thirty minutes. Her stomach stretched and stretched until she had almost doubled her body weight. All the time she was feeding she was urinating to get rid of the extra water in the blood. When she could take no more, she rested for a moment and then flopped back down on the ground. The pig slept on, unaware of what had just happened. With some difficulty, she took off and flew back to the cave where she rejoined the others who were returning from their hunt.

I hope you enjoyed the post.

More covid 19 fun.

This is me and Luke swimming in the cow trough.

This is me on my motorbike with Smiley (AKA Fat guts.)

This is me and Luke at the beach jumping off a log.
This is me on a walk with my mother and my dog Goose

Knuckle bones is a game. Step one, if you have any lambs or sheep at your house kill the ugliest one and have lamb shanks for dinner.  Inside the leg you will find some Knuckle bones sometimes you can get plastic knuckle bones but I like real Knuckle bones like I have in the picture.

You need to first get the Knuckle bones grease and yucky stuff off. If you have a dog don't let the dog get near the Knuckle bones because he will eat them. So first you need to put it in your your right or left hand whatever hand is right for you. Then put 5 knuckle bones into your hand. So you throw it up into the air the five knuckle bones in your hand and and then you have to at least try and get one on the back of your hand so throw it up into the air and when they're up in it to the air  flip your hand over and when the Knuckle bones come down try and catch at least one on the back your hand and then throw that knuckle bone up on the back off your hand and then catch it . Then throw the knuckle bone up the one knuckle bone in your hand up and try and pick up knuckle bone that is on the carpet or table. I think carpet is the best. Anyway when you're throwing up into the air you are trying to get a knuckle bone off the carpet or table and then when it's still mid air catch it as well as doing that. Then you're on twozies and it just goes on and on and on so that's how you play Knuckle bones.
